follow-on post: Clark's "Igloos"

I had another little look at my new sheepskin lined boots and noticed that they had a name printed underneath - Igloos, so naturally I googled it! Low and behold I found lots of pictures of the boots in question and some vintage ads.

advert from 1957 - that's exactly the boot I have, it says "Tormoulded" underneath the soles.

Advert from 1964 - looking slightly different
2009 versions from the Originals range - not available anymore, although there is a pair in size 7 on eBay right now!

Vintage winter booties

In case you hadn't noticed, winter is here (unless you live in a part of the world where it's warm - in which case, lucky you!). Even though there is no snow (yet?) where I am, it has been quite frosty and cold for the last couple of weeks. What can a girl do to keep her tootsies warm if not get some furry boots on! Armed with that thought I have been scouring eBay for vintage sheepskin lined boots, and I got some! I have no idea how old mine are, these boots pretty much looked the same between the 1950s and 1990s! Check out this ad from 1950 below.

Then check out my 'new' boots! I have seen identical ones to mine listed on Etsy, which claim to be from the 50s. Mine do say 'made in England' which makes me think they are definitely not newly made, but since they looked like this in the 80s and 90s too, they could be from then.

new cosy boots - so toasty!

"dear god, they're hideous!" was my husband's reaction - Pfft!

However, Martha approves

There are some modern version out there.
Sheepskin lined booties by Draper of Glastonbury, a modern version very close to the original

If you're tempted to keep your toes toasty with a pair of sheepskin lined boots and don't want to shell out the cash for new ones, there are currently a few on eBay and they do go pretty cheap - I don't think the general population think much of these anymore! It is fair to say that aesthetically they are not be most becoming shoe in the world, and you might associate these as an 'old lady' shoe (I suspect we have a soft spot for 'old lady' style though, don't we!?), but there is nothing more comfortable and indeed comforting in the winter chill.
Of course a pair of sheepskin lined 50s heeled shoes would be easier to carry off with a pretty dress!

If you're lucky enough to find them (and fit them! - sizes are usually small), a 30s/40s heeled winter boot is the dream.
30s/40s over-shoes - gorgeous aren't they?

the furrier the better

40s winter booties

Miss L Fire - these are on sale on their site in a size 6! Hurry! I liked the shorter version
